Ascona Academy - Ascona Choral Academy
From October 4 to 10, 2026, Ascona will become a hub of the European A Cappella scene. In collaboration with Nigel Short and his Tenebrae Choir, the Settimane Musicali Ascona presents the Ascona Choral Academy. For one week, participating chamber choirs will dive into the English choral tradition through daily rehearsals and performances — just like in English choral schools. At the heart of the program are the «Evensongs» at Collegio Papio, where choirs present what they’ve worked on, guided by Nigel Short and other course leaders.

The most important pillar of the academy are the daily Evensongs in the Collegio Papio.

Rehearse
New pieces are developed in the daily rehearsals. The rehearsals are supervised by Nigel Short and the other course leaders.

Perform
During the Evensongs, the rehearsals from the day are performed. Each choir is given the opportunity to perform for 10-15 minutes.
