Johnny Howard

For the last fifteen years, Johnny has been one of the world’s most sought-after choral singers. As the bass and Creative Director of the multi-Grammy-Award-winning vocal ensemble, The King’s Singers, Johnny has performed more than 1,400 concerts in over 60 countries across the globe. He is fortunate to have performed on almost all of the world’s most prestigious stages, including New York’s Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Sydney Opera House and the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, China. Under his creative guidance, the group was inducted into Gramophone magazine’s Hall of Fame, invited to perform an NPR Music Tiny Desk concert, and engaged as principal guest artists for Sofia, Queen of Spain in Madrid. He has recorded over 30 albums and EPs with The King’s Singers, including Gold, which celebrated the group’s 50th anniversary and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2019.

Over the course of his career, he has taught thousands of choral singers, in the context of individual workshops and extended residencies and Summer Schools. Other choirs with whom Johnny has performed - as a choir member and as a soloist - include Tenebrae, London Voices, The Choir of New College, Oxford, The Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, VOCES8 and The BBC Singers.

Following his departure from The King’s Singers in December 2024, Johnny has founded Classical Not Boring, an educational and artistic movement designed to teach the how and why of connection to the classical music industry - how we can all do it and why it’s so important - so that we can all serve the music we make, and the impact we want it to have with audiences, as meaningfully as possible. He is absolutely thrilled to be teaching alongside Nigel Short at the 2026 Ascona Choral Academy.
