Anna Semple

Anna Semple is a singer and composer based in London. Having finished her Masters in Composition at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2021, she currently freelances as a solo, ensemble and session singer alongside her position as a Teacher-Singer with Pimlico Musical Foundation, where she also teaches violin and music theory.

Anna sings for a number of concert groups including Tenebrae (where she was an Associate Artist 2022-24), Alamire, The Tallis Scholars, La Nuova Musica, SANSARA, The Sixteen, The English Concert, The Carice Singers, Echo, Corvus Consort, Ensemble Pro Victoria and Ex Cathedra. She has also worked with a number of prominent instrumental ensembles such as The Academy of Ancient Music, The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Manchester Collective, London Sinfonietta, and the London Symphony Orchestra under Antonio Pappano. Recent touring highlights include concerts at Wigmore Hall, Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg, Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam, and Cadogan Hall. She is an alumna of Genesis 16 and the Choir of Jesus College, Cambridge. Anna also deputises at a number of London churches such as St Paul’s Cathedral, The Temple Church and St Peter’s, Eaton Square.

Solo highlights include The Messiah with Ex Cathedra in Birmingham Symphony Hall, and Bach Cantatas with the London Bach Society at the church of St Bartholomew the Great. As a composer, recent commissions include works for Cheltenham Music Festival and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Helen Charlston and Toby Carr, Roderick Williams, the Royal Opera House, Temple Music Foundation, Waterperry Opera Festival, The Sixteen, and The Marian Consort, and her works have been performed internationally, as well as recorded by The Sixteen and The Marian Consort, and performed on BBC Radio 3 by the BBC Singers.
